Baby's first birthday smash cake

For my baby's first birthday I make her a little pink cake to smash, and then a bunch of cupcakes for the guests to eat. The cupcakes had super cute toppers with pictures from her first year of life. She was not sure about the cake and was very cautions, but she ended up having fun ripping into it anyway.

The sprinkle abomination

My husband loves sprinkles. He ALWAYS requests a sprinkle cake, and I ALWAYS give it to him. Here is this years rendition.

Panda Cupcakes

I came across this Idea on Bakerella's blog and loved it. I thought the panda cupcakes were absolutely adorable. Mine didn't turn out quite as perfect as Bakerella's, but still, pretty gosh darn cute. If you want to make them as well click HERE to go to the original link.

Stephanie's Gold and Burgundy Wedding Cake

This wedding cake was really fun for me because I made it for the little sister of one of my really good friends from my junior high and high school days. I hadn't seen her for almost 2 years when she contacted me about doing a wedding cake for her little sister. First of all, it was really weird for me to think that our little sisters are old enough to get married. In my head, 5 years and 1 child after the fact, I feel like I am barely old enough to get married. So once I got over that shock I had a lot of fun meeting with Stephanie (who is not 9 years old anymore) and her fiance and discussed this cake. She said her colors were champagne, gold and burgundy. I have never done those colors on a cake, so I was excited. She also wanted to use a nontraditional  cake topper. I was a little worried initially about the Willow Tree figurine, but I think it turned out really well. I iced the cake in a champagne colored Icing and then sprayed it with gold luster dust (which comes of surprisingly yellow in the pictures). Then I went crazy making all kinds of different burgundy gumpaste flowers. I was pleased with the results and very happy to have a chance to reconnect with an old friend while delivering the cake.

Gumpaste Lilies

This is not a cake, but it could go on a cake. I have been learning how to make sugar flowers and I just made my first set of Lilies. I think they turned out pretty good!

Heather's Baby Shower

A few months ago I did both cupcakes and cookies for the baby shower of a friend of mine. She wanted everything pink and girly. That is my kind of baby shower. I made vanilla cupcakes with pink vanilla swiss meringue butte rcream. I also designed and  printed the little cupcake toppers that went on the cupcakes.

While my first love is cake, I also absolutely love cookies. I make some crazy good ones too. for this baby shower I made chocolate fudge sandwich cookies with a cream cheese icing filling and rolled them in pink sprinkles. These are such a cute and seriously tasty cookie.

I forgot to take pictures of these creations, but luckily two of the guests are also photographers and my friends (How sweet is that?!) so I was able to get copies of the pictures they took. I think they turned out well. You can see more of their work here...

Adelle's Purple Baby Shower Cake

This baby shower cake was made for a fun quirky person that I know. She was having a little girl, but unlike me, did not want her baby to have anything pink. She wanted purple and lime green for her little one, and I made it happen. I covered the hat shaped cake with purple fondant and then cut out flowers and baby carriages and pressed them onto one of my floral texture mats. Then they were brushed with a pearlized shimmer dust. It is a unique cake, but I like it! Also, the actual cake was a vanilla cake that I dyed purple with food coloring and it had lime green butter cream as well.

Cream Peony Cake

I made this cake for the son and now daughter in law of one of my coworkers. She is the best 6th grade teacher I have ever met and I was more than happy to make this cake for her, even though I was not quite feeling up to it. They wanted a tall cake with cream peonies around one layer. When the bride gave me the design idea for the cake it seemed just a little quirky, but pretty so I was excited. I had never made gumpaste  peonies before so this was all trial and error, but I think they turned out pretty well. Let me know what you think.

I'm a Slacker

I am a slacker and I know it. The last cake I posted was made the week I found out I was pregnant. Very soon after that intense "morning sickness" set in and I spent the majority of my pregnancy on the couch. Also,  I had some major food aversions and anything sweet, especially frosting made me toss my cookies. Needless to say, I took break from cake decorating for a little over 9 months. I started making cakes again when my precious baby girl was about 2 months old. She is now 8 months old and I have 6 months of cakes to catch up on. I think I will just post the highlights. Here is are some pictures of my precious little girl that has kept me from my cakes and this blog.

Sunflowers and Sprinkles

I made this wedding cake for a childhood friend. She is such a gorgeous person and she really wanted funfetti and sprinkles, which with my husband I can totally relate to. We tried to give her a little more elegant application for sprinkles by making a ribbon of silver sprinkles. She also wanted sunflowers, so I made a bunch of them out of gumpaste. Of course it is funfetti cake inside and Vanilla butter cream on the outside!
