Cream Peony Cake

I made this cake for the son and now daughter in law of one of my coworkers. She is the best 6th grade teacher I have ever met and I was more than happy to make this cake for her, even though I was not quite feeling up to it. They wanted a tall cake with cream peonies around one layer. When the bride gave me the design idea for the cake it seemed just a little quirky, but pretty so I was excited. I had never made gumpaste  peonies before so this was all trial and error, but I think they turned out pretty well. Let me know what you think.

I'm a Slacker

I am a slacker and I know it. The last cake I posted was made the week I found out I was pregnant. Very soon after that intense "morning sickness" set in and I spent the majority of my pregnancy on the couch. Also,  I had some major food aversions and anything sweet, especially frosting made me toss my cookies. Needless to say, I took break from cake decorating for a little over 9 months. I started making cakes again when my precious baby girl was about 2 months old. She is now 8 months old and I have 6 months of cakes to catch up on. I think I will just post the highlights. Here is are some pictures of my precious little girl that has kept me from my cakes and this blog.

A cake for Mammaw!

Our friends the Langton's asked me to make this cake as a surprise for their mothers birthday. With the guidelines of purple and green I came up with this...

Sunflowers and Sprinkles

I made this wedding cake for a childhood friend. She is such a gorgeous person and she really wanted funfetti and sprinkles, which with my husband I can totally relate to. We tried to give her a little more elegant application for sprinkles by making a ribbon of silver sprinkles. She also wanted sunflowers, so I made a bunch of them out of gumpaste. Of course it is funfetti cake inside and Vanilla butter cream on the outside!

Jessica's 15th Cake

This cake was for my little sisters 15th birthday. It was a chocolate cake covered in fondant and dusted with a pearl powder. I used my cricut cake to cut out the letters and paisley pieces. I love it! It turned out so cute!

Green and white fantasy flower cake

I made all of the flowers and leaves for this cake by hand out of gum paste. In making a green cake I was looking for just the right shade of green, which happened to be a mixture of 3 different greens, and a teeny tiny bit of black. Enjoy!

Teal Swirls and Pearls

Making this cake I wanted to try something new. I have seen cakes make by using stamps and wanted to try it. However my stamp collection is not that big, but I was able to find this fun swirl stamp and had some pink luster dust to use as the ink. I also used my favorite little pearl sprinkles Enjoy!

Silver Zebra Cake

I made this cake for my little sisters birthday. She requested this cake months and months ago. Last summer when I was just starting to sell my cakes I took her to the craft store to buy some supplies and she saw the Duff Goldman animal print cake tattoo's. It was then that she told me that when her birthday came around (like 8 months later) that she wanted a zebra cake. Then a little while later she told me she wanted her zebra cake to be silver and black, instead of white and black. Then a few days before her birthday when I was checking to see if she still wanted her zebra cake, she said she also wanted teal  with the zebra stripes. Done! I had a lot of fun with this cake. It is a dark chocolate cake with chocolate fudge frosting. It is covered in fondant that was painted silver with luster dust, and the stripes were made out of chocolate that I colored black. This cake was a blast to make (who knew chocolate would be so much fun to work with) and it tasted pretty darn good. Happy Birthday Jessica!

Fire Truck Birthday Cake

I was hired to make this cake by one of my co-workers. It was a birthday cake for her husband, who happens to be a fireman. This cake was a ton of fun to make. I loved making the little ladders out of gum paste. Making the butter cream a nice red color was not as difficult as I expected thanks to Americolor. I discovered their gel paste food coloring last summer, and I am in love! I absolutely loved the way this cake turned out, and so did my coworker and her husband.

Chelsea's Wedding Cake

Chelsea was referred to me by a friend. Chelsea found a picture of a cake online and wanted me to recreate that cake. Her 3 requests were that it look like the cake in the picture, be filled with strawberries and coconut, and that it be BIG. She wanted a show stopping wedding cake. She got married in October so the cream and brown fit in with her color scheme. The cake was fun to make. There were over 200 fondant roses on the cake, and I spent hours on end making fondant ribbon roses. I had to assemble the cake on sight, but lucky for me my husband and one of my friends came to help me put it all together. Chelsea was thrilled with the cake, which means I am thrilled with it as well.
